3R Games’ popular spelunking adventure, Cave Crave, will soon be making its way to SteamVR. Already available for Meta Quest headsets and PSVR 2, Cave Crave has proven to be a tense and immersive experience for fans of real-world cave exploration and gamers alike. The PC VR edition of the game will feature all of the content currently in other editions, and all future content.

What is Cave Crave?

Mud slips through your gloves. The water rises. A narrow tunnel ahead might be your only escape. Will you risk the climb – or turn back? This is Cave Crave, the VR spelunking adventure that immerses players in the thrill and tension of real-world caving.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock (badumtish) you’re probably already aware of Cave Crave. 3R Games have been particularly good at promoting their VR titles. Thief Simulator VR: Greenview Street is widely recognised as a big seller and Besiege VR is loved by many. Cave Crave is the outside runner, but has proven popular regardless.

At its core, Cave Crave offers a diverse set of fictional cave maps designed with expert-grade realism in mind. Players face steep climbs, narrow tunnels, and water hazards, using tools like ropes and hammers to clear or secure paths as they descend into an expanding collection of cave networks.

Cave Crave Review

The game made it’s debut this summer on Meta Quest. It was later followed by a PSVR 2 edition, and below you can find the details on the upcoming PC VR launch of Cave Crave via Steam. But before we dive into that, why should you care?

Well, our friends over at 131XR delivered a full Cave Crave review at launch, stating: “If you’re looking for a realistic simulation of cave exploration and spelunking, Cave Crave is the one.

You can watch the full review in the embedded video below. Just enough to prepare you for that upcoming Steam launch of Cave Crave.

SteamVR Launch

With the upcoming PC VR release, 3R Games has stated that the cave architecture will remain unchanged. Rather than increasing polycounts for underground surfaces, the enhanced computing power of PC will be dedicated to advanced lighting, dynamic water reflections, and other visual effects.

As stated above, the Steam edition of Cave Crave will launch with the complete content library currently available on Meta Quest and PSVR 2. 3R Games has further revealed that several major updates are planned through the end of 2025, with one in particular described as especially significant.

The highly anticipated Tourist mode will debut with one of the world’s most iconic caves, allowing players to experience it firsthand in VR for the very first time. With an update scheduled for late September for Meta Quest and PSVR 2, Cave Crave will unlock new feature and a rare opportunity: a fully realised VR recreation of Nutty Putty Cave, Utah’s infamous underground site permanently closed after a tragic 2009 incident.

The Nutty Putty Cave map for Tourist Mode will be released as a free game update, and will be available in the SteamVR version as soon as it launches.

No specific release date has yet been offered for the Steam edition of Cave Crave. However, 3R Games has stated ‘fall’. So, that’s pretty soon.
