What’s better than a punch-up in a fantasy tavern? Let your fists fly, break stools, and imbibe magic booze in TaVRn’s Takedown, a bonkers and brutal VR beat-’em-up set in the world of Naheulbeuk. Set to launch next year on SteamVR and Meta Quest, this is a world that’s been compared to the likes of Sir Terry Pratchett’s Discworld.

What is Naheulbeuk?
TaVRn’s Takedown is the first-ever VR game set in the cult universe of Naheulbeuk – a legendary French fantasy satire that has captivated millions across comics, novels, video games, and even music. Originally launched in 2001 as a fantasy parody audio series, Naheulbeuk has grown into a full-blown pop culture phenomenon in France and across Europe. This includes numerous video game adaptations. The series is known for its unique blend of absurdist humor, D&D-style fantasy, and cult appeal.
As stated above, it’s been compared to the likes of Discworld, but also Rick & Morty, and Monty Python. With TaVRn’s Takedown, Naheulbeuk finally enters the world of VR.
TaVRn’s Takedown Details
Set 200 years before the events of The Dungeon of Naheulbeuk, this VR prequel transports players to the town of Mliuej. Here you’ll find the taverns are cursed. Customers are belligerent, and only your fists – and maybe a few flying stools – can bring order.
The game is presented in a cartoon-style with chaotic physics-based gameplay. Humour is important, as TaVRn’s Takedown aims to bring a new level of madness to virtual reality.

Partnering with Artefacts Studio for TaVRn’s Takedown
The team at VR Studio LDLC, a specialized VR branch of French tech giant LDLC, has partnered with Artefacts Studio, Blanktone Studio, and Clair de Lune to bring this brawler to life, working hand-in-hand with Naheulbeuk creator John Lang himself.
Artefacts Studio in particular stand out from this line-up. This is a studio that has not only history with Naheulbeuk itself – having developed several titles previously – but also many other notable titles. The likes of Crown Wars: The Black Prince, Space Hulk Tactics and MXGP24 present a varied and well received portfolio. However, there’s nothing in the way of VR yet seen here.
TaVRn’s Takedown is set to launch in 2026 for PC VR and Meta Quest. We have quite a way to go until launch, then. So this certainly seems like one to keep an eye on.
