Do you like guns? I mean, really like guns? Well, Irusu Studios believe you do. And so they’ve made a VR experience just for you! Gun X is a game about guns. About collecting guns. Assembling guns. Shooting guns. Guns. But is that enough to make a game? 131XR’s Gun X review looks to examine exactly that.

Do You Like Guns?

It may initially seem as though Gun X is solely for those who are into guns. Like, really into guns. However, in reality it’s a game that presents an interesting time management challenge.

As they player, you’re positioned behind a table which plays host to all of your weaponry. You can call on any guns you have unlocked and use them to take out the zombie waves heading towards you. However, before doing so you must assemble and load each weapon. This often results in tense moments when you’re trying to put the finishing touches to a weapon as the zombies start bearing down upon you.

It’s certainly an interesting premise. And in 131XR’s review (below), we discover it’s a game which does have genuine appeal outside of those who consider themselves gun aficionados.

Gun X Review

The gameplay loop of Gun X runs much as would be expected. You enter a level, an enemy wave begins approaching, you assemble your guns and take them out. Doing so, you’ll earn currency, which can then be spent on new weapons or upgrades. And this makes a real difference. Are you finding you’re a crack shot with the pistol, but the rather takes too long to put together? Up your ammo count for the pistol to give you something to rely upon.

The decisions you make between stages have a genuine impact on your performance. You’ll quickly learn to analyse your own strengths and weaknesses, and as proven in 131XR’s Gun X review, the game affords you the option to compensate.

Gun X Updates

With Gun X available now for Meta Quest headsets, the biggest question is what comes next? According to developer Irusu Studios, a co-op gameplay mode is in the works. Exactly how this will be realised is not yet known. However, the likelihood that you’ll be two players each with their own table assembling and shooting their weapons as a team calls upon some interesting gameplay opportunities. Do you get together a handful of pistols quickly to prevent the first wave while your teammate assembles a more complex weapon for later waves? Do you understand each others assembly speed and firing accuracy? These elements will surely be important for success.

There’s currently no confirmed date for the launch of Gun X‘s co-op mode. However, it’s certainly an update to keep an eye on.

Irusu Studios

The developers of Gun X, Irusu Studios, previously released Shadows of Truth for Meta Quest and PCVR. This well received adventure game debuted as an Early Access title in 2024, but didn’t exactly set the world on fire. Hopefully Irusu Studios find more success with Gun X.
