Colossal Cave launched on Meta Quest 2 last month. It would be fair to say it received a mixed response. Following some negativity, the developers have revealed a roadmap for the title. This includes new ports to PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One in March 2023, and a PlayStation VR 2 (PSVR2) release.
Colossal Cave is a homage to the esteemed classic text adventure, Colossal Cave Adventure by Will Crowther and Don Woods. This new revival uses handcrafted art and environmental creations based on actual caverns. It brings the adventure to life in fully explorable 3D art.
In the game, players can immerse themselves in the mysterious world of boundless caverns and sweeping vistas, underground streams and hidden reservoirs. Discover the many lost treasures, ancient civilisations, and encounter friends and foes alike in your quest to uncover the great mysteries of the mammoth cave system.
Colossal Cave VR Releases
As stated above, Colossal Cave is already available for the Meta Quest 2. However, in addition to plans for more console ports, the game will also be coming to a variety of VR headsets.
PSVR2, PICO and Steam VR will all get new releases of the title. These editions will reportedly benefit from several development updates improving quality of life, small bugs, and more.
The game is currently available for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Meta Quest 2, PC and Mac. No release date for these new console and VR editions has yet been announced outside of ‘2023’.
