AMATA Games took home the gold recently. The studio’s VR Action-Adventure Game, The Tale of Onogoro, won awards at both the 27th Annual Webby Awards and the 2023 NYX Game Awards. Double the awards, double the fun.
The Tale of Onogoro combines traditional Japanese culture and steampunk elements to create its unique world. The player travels with Haru, a Japanese high priestess. Together they must solve puzzles and battle giant beast-like beings called “Kami”.
The Tale of Onogoro was created by producer/director Hiromichi Takahashi and the development team behind the VR escape-room game Last Labyrinth. Last Labyrinth received numerous accolades at game and VR events worldwide due to its unique VR experience. And now, The Tale of Onogoro is following the same path.
This game debuted worldwide on Meta Quest Store on 17th March, 2022. It was later released on Steam and the PICO Store, and the eventually made it’s way to PlayStation VR in December 2022. On 22nd February, 2023, the game also launched on PSVR2 also.
The Tale of Onogoro Awards Season
The NYX Game Awards is an international awards program that recognises creative excellence in the video game industry. The Tale of Onogoro was a Gold Winner in two categories (Meta Quest VR Game (New) – Adventure / Meta Quest VR Game (New) – Indie) at the 2023 NYX Game Awards: Season 1.
Moreover, hailed as the “Internet’s highest honor” by The New York Times, is the The Webby Awards. Presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS), The Webby Awards is the leading international awards organisation honoring excellence on the internet.
The Tale of Onogoro was named a Webby Honoree in the Independent Creator in the 27th Annual Webby Awards Game category.
