Revealed back in August 2025, the launch of Vortex 9 as a VR port for Meta Quest now has an official release date. Developer iTales VR has tried their hardest to put the game in the spotlight in the intervening months, going as far as to tease a launch for February 2026 last month. But now, finally, we now exactly when the Vortex 9 Quest VR port will arrive.

Vortex 9’s Target Demographic

Despite the efforts of iTales VR to showcase Vortex 9‘s upcoming Meta Quest VR port, it has undoubtedly past many by. And ‘why’s that?’, you may ask. Well, because Vortex 9 is a hugely popular game. But not necessarily will the kind of gamers who regularly read XR news websites like your very own XRSource.

The original PC and mobile edition of Vortex 9 is clearly aimed at a younger, casual gaming audience. Particularly teens and young adults who enjoy colourful, fast-paced multiplayer shooters. With its bright art style, exaggerated character designs, and accessible gameplay mechanics, the game aligns more closely with the aesthetic trends popularised by titles like hero shooters and cartoon-inspired battle games. Its lower hardware requirements on PC and mobile make it accessible to players who may not own high-end gaming systems.

Features such as character skins, stylised weapons, and personality-driven avatars resonate strongly with Gen Z players. The game’s free-to-play structure on mobile further supports this, lowering the entry barrier.

With more than 10 million players across mobile and PCVortex 9 is soon coming to VR for the first time while staying fully compatible with the existing ecosystem.

First or Third-Person in VR

Vortex 9 on Meta Quest introduces a fully immersive VR mode built around a newly developed first-person perspective. Unlike the original PC and mobile editions, where players primarily engage from a third-person viewpoint, the VR version has been engineered from the ground up to support natural head tracking, motion-based aiming, and spatial awareness. The first-person mode places players directly inside the action, allowing them to aim, move, and react within a fully 3D environment designed for virtual reality interaction.

Playing on Meta Quest, you’ll have the ability to instantly switch between first-person (FPS) and third-person (TPS) perspectives during gameplay. This hybrid system means VR users are not locked into a single camera style. Crucially, this perspective-switching system does not fragment the player base. VR users fight in the same matches as PC and mobile players, using the same weapons, pets, and progression systems.

Vortex 9 Quest VR Port Launch Date

The foundations for the VR perspective switching system were first developed during the Meta Developer Competition, where developer iWorlds showcased an early VR build of the game. During that period, the team focused on prototyping the FPS/TPS switching mechanic and ensuring cross-platform compatibility worked seamlessly. The result is a VR adaptation that preserves the core identity of Vortex 9 while giving Meta Quest players the flexibility to choose how they experience the action.

And you’ll be able to make that choice for yourself when the Vortex 9 Quest VR port launches on 26th February, 2026. The game will be free-to-play, just as with all other editions.
