There was a time when you couldn’t move for all of the VR Kickstarter campaigns rolling around. Nowadays it’s far less common, but we do occasionally see new projects aiming to crowdsource funding. Nerd Ninjas are next to throw their hat into the ring, with the upcoming Dice Throne Digital.
What is Dice Throne?
Dice Throne is a popular dice-and-card battle game. Often described as “Yahtzee meets Magic: The Gathering“, players engage in fantasy-themed battles. You’ll win by eliminating all other opponents using their chosen hero’s unique set of dice and cards. The game originally debuted in 2017, and since then has gone from strength-to-strength. Numerous collaboration editions exist, particularly in association with Marvel.
Indie game studio Nerd Ninjas has announced plans for a video game adaptation, known as Dice Throne Digital. This edition of the game is being designed for modern, connected play. The game will feature full cross-platform play from day one. This will allow you to battle friends across a multitude of devices.
Dice Throne Digital Kickstarter Campaign
Just like the tabletop version, Dice Throne Digital will feature Dice Throne‘s assortment of original heroes. According to the creators, the game is easy to learn and hard to put down, whether you’re looking to squeeze in a quick duel or settling in for an all-out showdown.
“Since our first humble Kickstarter in 2017, Dice Throne has amassed an incredible, thriving tabletop community, and we’ve been counting down the days until we could bring that same high-energy experience to digital,” said Nate Chatellier, co-creator of Dice Throne and founder/CEO of Nerd Ninjas. “Dice Throne Digital has been a dream since the very beginning, and we can’t wait for players to get their hands on it. From the beginning of development, one of our top priorities was cross-platform play. It is important to us that players can take their favorite Heroes and battle on mobile, PC or even Meta from day one.”
The upcoming Kickstarter campaign for Dice Throne Digital will pave the way for launches on iOS, Android, Steam, and Meta Quest. The Meta Quest edition will utilise MR technology.
Launch Plans
The Kickstarter campaign will launch launch on Tuesday, 14th April, 2026. It’s not yet been revealed how much the Kickstarter campaign will attempt to raise for the development of Dice Throne Digital. Details on specific launch timing, game modes, and exclusive incentives will be announced in April.
