To say details regarding the highly anticipated (if you’re an anime fan) Evangelion: Cross Reflections have been sparse is a bit of an understatement. So much so that in the year since its first reveal, all we’ve seen is one piece of artwork. Not to worry, though, now we have our first actual screenshot and details of a demo!

So What’s New?

One screenshot is not normally a cause for celebration, but considering the franchise and that it’s a first look at the visual design, we’re jumping right in. As you can see in the image above, it’s a very teasing slice of information, with no awesome Evangelion to enjoy.

Published on the game’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, what we see is someone, presumably the player, filling out a NERV application form. As well as getting some sort of welcome pack and access card. As we already know, players will take on the role of a brand new character, meaning this is a look at an early part of the process of becoming a pilot.

Anime fans may remember that series protagonist Shinji Ikari was thrown in at the deep end when it came to fighting the Angels. There was no time for pleasantries like filling out administrative forms.

Evangelion’s 30th Anniversary

This singular image also marks the start of Pixelity Inc.’s marketing push as it gears up for the Neon Genesis: Evangelion 30th anniversary at the end of February. A special event is being held in Tokyo, Japan, from 21st to 23rd February, with the VR developer hosting a booth.

If you happen to be going, you’ll be one of the first to enjoy a hands-on demo of the game.

You may be one of the lucky ones to have already experienced Evangelion: Cross Reflections, of course. Pixelity Inc. held closed in-person playtests in Japan and California in December.

What is Evangelion: Cross Reflections?

While the actual gameplay remains a secret, the narrative does not. We already know that Evangelion: Cross Reflections will be split into a trilogy, spanning all 26 episodes of the original anime.

Episodes 1-11 will be the backdrop for part one of the game, so you’ll get to experience those iconic locations and encounter the original characters.

We still don’t have any confirmed platforms, but we’re expecting Meta Quest for the 2026 launch window.

Hopefully, it’ll turn out better than Mobile Suit Gundam: Silver Phantom, which was more of a 2017 VR experience than modern VR game.
