Developer Buffalo Buffalo has announced a release window for the 1.0 launch of Birdseed VR. The updated version will mark the end of the game’s Early Access period and introduce a number of new features, including online multiplayer co-op, additional bird species, seasonal events, and the launch of a premium cosmetic store.
How Birdseed VR Plays
At its core, Birdseed VR is a first-person birdwatching and photography game set in a stylised forest environment. You’ll explore the landscape at your own pace, listening for birdsong, spotting wildlife, and using an in-game camera to photograph different species. Successfully capturing birds on camera allows you to catalogue them. The game offers daily challenges, and gradually unlocked progression milestones.
The emphasis is on calm interaction rather than fast reactions. Movement, camera handling, and exploration are deliberately simple, allowing players to focus on environmental details and sound cues. This design approach aligns Birdseed VR with other “cozy” VR titles that prioritise presence, atmosphere, and player comfort.
Online Co-op Arriving with Version 1.0
One of the headline additions in the 1.0 release is online multiplayer co-op. This feature will allow players to enter the Birdseed VR world together, explore the forest simultaneously, and communicate using in-game voice chat. Co-op play supports shared activities such as photographing birds, completing daily challenges, or simply exploring the environment side by side.
According to Buffalo Buffalo, multiplayer is designed to complement the game’s relaxed tone rather than disrupt it, keeping the focus on shared discovery instead of competition.
Additional Features Coming at Launch
The full release will also introduce Scout’s Shop, a premium store offering cosmetic items and tools. These include alternative camera skins, decorative charms, and visual customisation options for lenses and equipment. Buffalo Buffalo has stated clearly that Birdseed VR will not include pay-to-win mechanics, and that premium items will have no direct impact on gameplay performance.
Alongside multiplayer and the premium store, Birdseed VR 1.0 will add:
- New bird species: expanding the in-game wildlife catalogue
- New camera lenses: including a telephoto option for distant photography
- Seasonal events: bringing time-limited challenges and cosmetic rewards
Birdseed VR Full Release Launch Date
Birdseed VR is currently available in Early Access on Meta Quest 3. The current version already includes the core gameplay systems, with the upcoming March 2026 update representing a significant expansion rather than a redesign.
