If you’re a PC VR gamer looking for a new adventure to sink your teeth into, UK-based The Games Shed has a new offering for you. Launched in Early Access back in 2019, Primal Reign: The Age of New Kings is building towards its full launch next year and has released a brand new demo.

What is Primal Reign: The Age of New Kings?
Primal Reign: The Age of New Kings is billed as ‘a cinematic VR action-adventure’. The game is set during WWII, with a military skirmish that rapidly transforms into an adventure taking you deep into Egyptian tombs. Ancient markings hint at forbidden knowledge, but the unknown depths are foreboding, and your presence is not welcome.
As you enter Mummies rise as hostile guardians, driven by a deeper force awakening beneath the ruins. The game pivots between exploration and tense fights for survival where every step forward carries risk.
“Primal Reign is about throwing players into a familiar war movie fantasy – and then pulling the rug out from under them,” said Graham Jones, Director at The Games Shed. “The demo is designed to feel like you’ve crossed a line you can’t come back from: the battlefield fades away, and suddenly you’re trapped inside something far older, darker, and very much alive.”
Early Access
The game launched as an Early Access title back in 2019, but has not been met with a great response. Only two reviews exist on Steam at the time of writing, both of which are negative. However, The Games Shed has continued to work on the game. The team suggest that player feedback is important to the future development of the game.
“We will actively use Steam Discussions, bug reports, and player feedback to prioritise fixes and improvements—especially around comfort, controls, weapon feel, performance, difficulty, and progression. We’ll share update notes and development intentions as clearly as possible so players can see what’s changing and why,” states the official Steam page.

Primal Reign: The Age of New Kings Demo
The Primal Reign: The Age of New Kings demo opens in a desperate gunfight at a desert tomb entrance. As the enemy closes in, survival means retreating underground. Shortly after entering the chambers, your adventure escalates into a pursuit. A catastrophic encounter sees a tank is dragged into a rising acid-filled chamber. Soon, ancient “guards” and foreign machinery collide. Then things take an even more unexpected turn, as something resembling a portal system begins to feed.
The Primal Reign: The Age of New Kings demo is available now on the game’s official Steam page.
Future Plans
“Over time, we plan to expand Primal Reign with additional story content, locations, encounters, weapons/tools, enemy types, and progression—alongside continued improvements to AI, interaction depth, comfort/accessibility options, and performance optimisation,” states the Steam page for the game. While no specific release date full the full version has been announced, The Games Shed has recently stated that a target of 2027 has been put in place.
The Early Access version of Primal Reign: The Age of New Kings is now available for £16.75 GBP. Are you looking for a new PC VR adventure? Is The Games Shed’s offering on your list? Let us know in the comments below!
