Games such as Only Up! and Chained Together have proven to be extremely popular, challenging players to climb towering structures and risk losing all progress with one slight misstep. In VR, however, we’ve not really seen this gaming trend take hold. Titles like To The Top, The Tower, and even The Climb 2 are similar but don’t quite have that zany vibe. That’s about to change this January with the arrival of A Black Climbing Dog for Meta Quest.

What is ABCD?
To give it its full name, ABCD: A Black Climbing Dog, is a platformer where, you guessed it, you have to climb a seemingly impossible tower of items as a dog. Using your arms (paws?) to jump and control your movement – which sounds akin to Gorilla Tag – you must precisely leap between all manner of floating objects. From cupboards and cars to giant burgers, the assortment of climbable items looks to be hugely varied.
And there are multiple courses too. Developer Ariane Studios hasn’t stated how many per se, just that some will be short, focused routes, whilst others are marathon ascents. And you have complete freedom to find your own path to the summit, looking for the safest (or most treacherous) line.
While there will be checkpoints so you don’t lose all your progress, they won’t help if you’re trying to make the leaderboards. Hitting the top of those might be harder than reaching the summit!
Launch Details
Currently, ABCD: A Black Climbing Dog is scheduled to arrive at some point this January. The studio has yet the announce a specific date, or even release a trailer.

Who are Ariane Studios?
From the look of ABCD: A Black Climbing Dog, you might think it’s nothing more than shovelware – a trend particularly affecting the Quest store – but this isn’t Ariane Studios’ first VR title. In fact, the team has made a number of VR games for Meta Quest, including Captain Cat, Worst Food Truck – Cooking Game and its most popular title, Scan or Scam, which is very well rated.
