With CES 2026 underway, there’s been a strong showing of XR glasses. Some, like the Pickle 1 focus on enhancing your everyday life. ASUS and XREAL, on the other hand, are far more interested in gamers. Unveiling the new ROG XREAL R1 gaming glasses, featuring plug-and-play functionality and microOLED displays.

What is the ROG XREAL R1?
Like most of XREAL’s products, the R1 has been designed to offer users a larger virtual screen with which to enjoy content from mobile devices. The key difference here is that both companies are now targeting gamers, with one feature in particular standing out: a 240Hz refresh rate. That should make for the smoothest possible gaming experience on an XREAL device, because all the rest only hit 120Hz.
Featuring micro-OLED FHD (1920 x 1080) displays that can provide a 171-inch virtual screen, the R1 includes plug-and-play compatibility with the ROG Ally handheld console. One USB-C cable connects the two, and no setup is required. The ROG Ally automatically connects once the glasses are plugged in.
The R1 can be plugged into phones, laptops, consoles and PC’s. And it’s the latter where users will notice that 240Hz refresh rate. Using the supplied ROG Control Deck, you can quickly and smoothly switch between multiple devices.

- 3 Degrees of Freedom (DoF)

When, Where, and at What Cost?
Currently, neither ASUS nor XREAL have revealed a launch date or how much the ROG XREAL R1 will cost. The glasses are slated to be released during the first half of 2026, but it’s unclear if that’ll be region-specific.
As for the expected cost, considering the ROG XREAL R1 has very similar specifications to the XREAL Pro One ($649 USD), we’d expect a price just north of that.
