Soul Assembly has officially launched Street Gods for Meta Quest headsets, a VR roguelite that puts you in control of divine power as you wield the legendary Mjolnir against a city on the brink of Ragnarök. The game blends physical combat, mythic storytelling and run-based progression, and is available now on Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S. But is it worth your time? We look to 131XR’s Street Gods review to find out more.

What is Street Gods?

In Street Gods you’ll assume the role of Val, a teenage graffiti artist who stumbles upon the legendary hammer Mjolnir. The weapon crashes into her city with Thor trapped inside, and the nine realms merge into the modern world. Hostile forces from the underworld spill into the streets, leaving Val as the only barrier between reality and Ragnarök.

That all sounds pretty heavy, but realistically what this means is that you’ll be bashing demon heads with a big hammer. Which sounds much cooler. And ‘cool’ is exactly what Street Gods is. It’s not a brain taxing game or a dexterity challenge. It’s an all-out brawler. Grab the hammer, bash some heads, save the world.

Street Gods Review

It can’t possibly be that simple, right? Well, in 131XR’s Street Gods review (below) we learn there’s a little more to the game. There’s a light roguelite element alongside all the demon killing. The Tafl board system allows you to construct each run by placing tiles – each of which represents an arena – into a custom path. As you advance the board changes, introducing new zones, elemental traps and multiple solutions that allow you to determine the length and difficulty of your run.

There’s of course a number of power-ups you can collect along the way. Some permanent, some temporary. But all designed to improve your run.You can find out more about this element of the game in the Street Gods review from 131XR embedded below.

Combat Built for VR

Coming from Soul Assembly, creators of the popular Drop Dead: The Cabin series, Street Gods is built specifically for VR. The game emphasises physical intent as Mjolnir offers a range of abilities. Charged attacks, stun effects and area control, all driven by the swinging of your arms. As the game progresses, you’ll unlock new combat techniques and weapons.

In addition to Mjolnir, players gain access to offhand relics; a whip being the first. This allows you to temporarily stun an enemy and even pull them towards you. These weapons are further supported by the temporary and permanent upgrades mentioned above, which culminates in a very well rounded and thoroughly enjoyable combat system.

Street Gods on Meta Quest

Street Gods is available now on Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S. There’s currently no word on any other editions, including PSVR 2 and Meta Quest 2. This is a shame, and Street Gods certainly deserves to find an audience. As stated in 131XR’s review above, the game’s production values are simply fantastic, so if you’re looking for a new VR brawler make sure Street Gods is at the top of your list.
