Tabletop gaming has proven to be quite popular in VR, with the likes of Demeo and Table Troopers. Also on this list is Successor from Playwood Project, which launched for Meta Quest back in September. The next major update has just arrived, redesigning Successor’s Adventure mode.

Successor Update
In the second update since the launch of Successor, Playwood Project initiated the redesign to make exploration and campaign progression more accessible and rewarding.
- Dynamic Campaign Generation: Choose which enemy faction to challenge and set the size of your conquest, from short regional skirmishes to full-scale kingdom campaigns.
- Defeat Rulers & Claim Crowns: Each defeated Ruler now unlocks a unique Crown, both as a collectible trophy for your player desk and an equippable artifact granting new traits to your Lords.
- Visual & Audio Enhancements: Improved lighting in the Waterfall biome, increased 3D sound range, and refined cave tiles in the Stronghold Ruins.
Coinciding with the launch of the update this week is a limited-time discount. Until 8th November 2025, there’s a 30% price reduction on the Horizon Store.

A Successful Successor
Successor began life as a SteamVR game. First revealed all the way back in 2021, the studio held several playtests and even conducted a Kickstarter campaign in April this year, launching into Early Access in May 2025. Whilst that was underway, Playwood Project released the Meta Quest version in September, followed by the full 1.0 version on SteamVR on 24th October.
Successor is a real-time, miniature strategy title, where you become a lord and command your team of heroes into battle. A single-player experience, the procedurally generated campaigns offer changeable challenges with handcrafted story campaigns. Explore varied regions and biomes, vanquishing enemies, discovering loot and unlocking new heroes.
