The highly anticipated launch of Trenches VR is finally upon us. Developed by Steelkrill Studio and Prep Games, Trenches VR proposes an experience perfectly suited for the spooky season. It’s a good thing VR is often made to be a standing experience, as if you had a seat you’d be jumping out of it.

Horror in the Trenches
Set in the haunting labyrinth of World War I’s front lines, Trenches VR places players in the boots of a soldier trapped deep in the mud, blood, and terror of the Great War. Armed with only your instincts and the faint glow of a trench lighter, your mission is simple: to survive and escape. However, you’re not alone in this hellish landscape. Something is stirring. Something supernatural.
Unlike traditional horror games, Trenches VR uses real-time microphone input. The enemies can hear you. Whisper too loud, breathe too heavily, or panic in fear, and you may not live to regret it.
Trenches VR Review
With the launch now officially upon us, our partners at 131XR delivered a Trenches VR review. Praising the concept of the game, the review suggests that sadly it falls upon lazy jump scares all too much. While the immersive nature of VR lends itself to horror in new ways, this kind of experience has been seen all too often. Trenches VR sadly does not offer anything new.
What’s more, there are some issues with the VR implementation of the game. Most notably, when collecting items that offer details on the story element. You can watch the full Trenches VR review in the video embedded below.
Debuting on Meta Quest & PC VR
Trenches VR is an adaptation of Steelkrill Studios’ 2023 flatscreen game, Trenches. On traditional console and PC the game received a somewhat mixed response. Some players appreciated the attempt at innovation, while others suggested that the lightweight offering was nothing more than a series of jump scares. It seems that 131XR agreed with the latter, with the VR adaptation suggesting something unique but ultimately boiling down to the old familiar tricks.
Trenches VR is available now for Meta Quest and PC VR. The SteamVR edition of the game is priced at £12.79 GBP, with an introductory price promotion running until 5th November, 2025. This brings the price down to £10.87. The Meta Quest edition is priced at £9.99. There’s no explanation as to why the price differs across the two current platforms.
Trenches VR for PSVR 2
Following its debut on Meta Quest and PC VR, Trenches VR will also be coming to PSVR 2. However, at present there is no confirmed date. The most recent press communication from Perp Games simply states that ‘a PSVR 2 release will follow soon’.
Trenches VR is designed for fans of atmospheric survival horror, VR immersion, and historical psychological tension. Is that you? Let us know in the comments below if you’re planning on picking up Trenches VR!
