Quite often, here at XR Source, we like to list the best roguelike games or the best roomscale games. But for many gamers out there, simply looking for ‘the best’ isn’t always the main requirement. VR titles can offer a bevvy of immersive gameplay opportunities, so you might be looking for great bow mechanics, or games that provide precision physics. Or, as we’re covering here, you might just be looking for the goriest VR games.
PlayStation VR 2 has had some major games arrive for the system since its launch in February. Quite possibly the biggest for 2023 is yet to come, in the form of Capcom’s Resident Evil 4 VR Mode. Initially teased earlier this year, we’ve now been treated to brand-new screenshots from the game.
Let’s face it, virtual reality (VR) is still a long way off from competing with flatscreen gaming in terms of numbers. But that doesn’t mean it can’t be innovative whilst attracting blockbuster IPs to attract new players. Franchises like Star Wars, Ghostbusters, and The Walking Dead have all found a natural home in VR. But these all come from movie and TV backgrounds. When it comes to videogames making the leap into immersive gaming, none have done it on the same level as Capcom’s Resident Evil.
Now, this is going to be a difficult one, and likely controversial. There are many, many excellent virtual reality shooting games on the market. Whether that’s completing campaigns solo or teaming up for multiplayer matches, the genre is vast. So here XR Source picks the seven best VR shooters – or at least tries, don’t shoot us!
A week away from Capcom’s launch of the Resident Evil 4 remake and the reviews are in. It’s good, very good in fact, some outlets have even called it a “masterpiece”. This is slightly annoying because I wasn’t going to buy it. Not that I wanted it to be rubbish, just that I’ve played Resi 4 a lot, and it’s great. Therefore, can a remake really draw me back in? More importantly, can it do enough differently considering the excellent VR version?
