Another Axiom’s Gorilla Tag is a phenomenally successful VR experience. There’s no debate about that. The game has practically single-handedly lowered the average age of users of the Meta Quest platform, and changed the template for what makes an appealing VR experience for that audience. Open up the Horizon Store on your Meta Quest and you’ll see two things, guaranteed. The first will be a myriad of Horizon Worlds apps. The second, seeing Gorilla Tag at the top (or top-three) of the best-selling games each and every week. Much like Beat Saber before it, Gorilla Tag has become a VR phenomenon since its official launch in 2022. Naturally, that kind of success is going to attract imitators. A lot of imitators. There once was a time when Beat Saber ruled the roost as the game every VR fan owned. Its addictive rhythm action gameplay was easy to pick up and play, with lots of modern tunes to enjoy. Undoubtedly still a pioneer in the space, a relatively new contender has muscled its way in.
