At the beginning of 2025, Korean studio Pixelity Inc. made an announcement that got anime fans excited. The team revealed plans to develop a VR game based on the coveted ’90s anime, Neon Genesis Evangelion. Now we have an official name, Evangelion: Cross Reflections.

Evangelion: Cross Reflections Details

Apart from the name and a new game logo, Pixelity Inc. has only released very broad details so far. Evangelion: Cross Reflections will be set within the original anime’s 26-episode timeline. However, the game will be split into a trilogy, centring on events and locations from episodes 1-11. “Its standout feature is the intricate weaving of key episodes from the existing storyline with completely new, game-original narrative content,” Pixelity Inc. notes in a statement.

This storyline will see players step into the role of an original protagonist, who tries to realise their dream of becoming a pilot. “Players will enjoy the story set in the locations from the anime from their own perspective. Battles between Evangelions and Angels, various interactive elements, and engaging captivating storylines with original characters are also planned,” the studio adds.

Currently, Evangelion: Cross Reflections is slated for a 2026 release, with no VR platforms confirmed as yet. However, the studio has confirmed the game will feature VR and MR content, so expect a Meta Quest edition at least.

Who are Pixelity Inc.?

Taking on such a venerable anime franchise is no small feat, so thankfully, Pixelity Inc. aren’t new to the VR scene. Founded in 2017, the team’s first game was Rise Of The Fallen (2018) for Oculus Go and Gear VR. This was followed by the mini-game Crazy World VR in 2022 and PUTTZZLE in 2023.

In addition to Evangelion: Cross Reflections, Pixelity Inc. also have The Patcher and Teahouse of Souls in development. The latter of which was originally slated for a 2023 release.

The World of Neon Genesis Evangelion

Neon Genesis Evangelion (1995) became one of the most critically acclaimed anime of all time when it was first released. Set in a post-apocalyptic 2015, the series is known for its epic battles between the Evangelion and the Angels. These Angels are giant, supernatural beings, and to counteract the threat, humanity created the Multipurpose Humanoid Decisive Weapon “Evangelion”.

If you’re into anime and have yet to watch Neon Genesis Evangelion, you should add it to your watch list before Evangelion: Cross Reflections arrives.
