Since the launch of the Quest 3 and Quest 3S, Meta has been pushing for more mixed reality (MR) content. We’re all used to immersive VR adventures but what is it like when that experience envelopes your home? As you’ll find in 131XR’s latest review, Mythic Realms offers a uniquely satisfying quest into MR.
Homely Realm of Adventure
Developed by Petricore, Mythic Realms is a roguelike RPG exclusive to Meta Quest headsets – including Quest 2! Classed a mixed reality adventure, Mythic Realms in fact mixes both VR and MR elements into the whole experience.
You’re on a quest to fight fearsome dragons and horrible goblins, all of which appear in your very room. The game even dresses your location with environmental features like vines, trees and other foliage for an immersive effect. When you’re not balling enemies in dungeons (your home), you’re whisked to a virtual village where you can update your skills, chat with inhabitants and prepare for your next run.
Mythic Realms Review
Mythic Realms is a single-player adventure that mixes the real world with the digital. Scaling to rooms large and small, your journey involves fighting numerous fantasy creatures as they leap out of the walls and climb over your furniture to attack you. This being a roguelike RPG, each session (or ‘run’) tasks you with getting as far as possible without dying. Should that happen (and it will), you’ll return back to the village to give it another go. This time a little wiser and, hopefully, able to purchase some useful upgrades.
131XR finds the gameplay sticks to a classic VR formula. That means plenty of physical interactions, whether fighting opponents with swords or discovering new items. Plus there’s more than fighting to be done, you can also spend time doing a spot of fishing if you so wish.
Mythic Realms is playable on Meta Quest 3, Meta Quest 3S, Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest Pro, with 131XR reviewing the game on Quest 3S. As you’ll discover in 131XR’s review below, Mythic Realms offers quite the expansive MR experience. With plenty to discover and unlock, there’s enough content here to keep players coming back for more.
Mixed Reality Mayhem
Mythic Realms is just the latest in an ever-growing list of mixed reality content for Meta Quest. Initially, MR content tended to be tacked onto pre-existing VR titles like Cubism or Synth Riders. While this was a novel addition to those games – and useful to showcase how MR tech worked – developers and studios were still catching up to Meta’s latest tech advancements.

Nowadays, MR has taken great strides thanks to the likes of Mythic Realms, Lego Bricktales, Last Stand, Wall Town Wonders and many more. It’s never been easier to find MR content for Meta Quest, with the headset currently leading the way when it comes to accessible titles.
