Merge Games and Maximum Entertainment released Smalland: Survive the Wilds only a few weeks ago for PC, PlayStation and Xbox. The developers have now confirmed that a virtual reality version is in the works. Called Smalland: Survive the Wilds VR, it’ll step onto Meta Quest this Spring.
What is Smalland: Survive the Wilds VR?
A single-player adventure, Smalland: Survive the Wilds VR offers a brand-new adventure in this gigantic world. Completely standalone from its flatscreen cousin, in this VR tale, the Smallfolk emerge from their burrows to reclaim the Overland now that the giants have gone. That doesn’t mean the Overlands are any less perilous. Players will have to explore, scavenge, craft, build and fight to gain a foothold.
Collecting valuable resources will allow players to build encampments, utilising wood and stone to create a protective structure. They’ll be able to craft various tools, weapons, and armour sets to survive in a world ruled by giant insects, arachnids and more. Not every creature poses a threat, however, as some can be tamed and customised to your benefit.
Maximum’s First VR Game
This is an exciting move from Maximum Entertainment. But taking this miniature adventure from a flatscreen game into VR is no easy feat. Yet it is one more and more developers are choosing to do. The likes of Lawn Mowing Simulator VR, Riven, Metal: Hellsinger, Akka Arrh, Green Hell VR and many more have (or are going to) embrace VR entertainment.
