5 Essential PSVR 2 Accessories

How to Set up PSVR 2

The PlayStation VR 2 (PSVR 2) has only been out for five months. So it hasn’t had the same amount of time to build up an accessory selection in the same league as its predecessor. Even so, there are still a number of options if you wish to augment and refine your gameplay experience. So here are some essential PSVR 2 accessories to consider.

PSVR 2 Accessories

Whether you’re looking for first-party accessories from Sony or fancy saving a few bucks by exploring third-party vendors on Amazon, there are some cool add-ons for PSVR 2 out there. Unlike our Meta Quest 2 accessories list, PSVR 2’s tethered connection means you don’t need to worry about headset battery life. However, there are other factors to consider, such as storage or the Sense controller’s own battery duration.

Sound Quality

Really good VR games need engaging visuals and immersive sound. If the sound is rubbish it can ruin an otherwise excellent game. The PSVR 2 does feature in-built headphones/speakers, instead, Sony supplies the headset with little in-ear bubs. Whilst they’re fine to get you started, what you really want are some decent headphones.

The are loads on the market for PlayStation 5, but Sony’s PlayStation PULSE 3D Wireless Headset easily comes out on top. Retailing for $99 USD, its comfortable, supports 3D Audio and most importantly, was designed with PSVR 2 in mind.

Cleanliness and comfort

The PSVR 2 is radically different in a lot of areas to the original PSVR. The halo headstrap might remain but Sony changed elements including the head strap material. Not quite as well padded as the PSVR, this has led some users to find its not as comfortable, creating redlines in the process.

VR Cover, an expert in accessories for VR headsets sought to remedy the problem with its Head Strap Cover Set for $29. Made of soft cotton, the set comes in three part; a cotton cover for the front headband, one for the rear – with a gap so you can still reach the tightening dial – and a top strap for extra support. The cotton feels great, smooth with no irritation, although it doesn’t really provide much extra padding. On the other hand, it is machine washable. So after a sweaty Beat Saber session its easy to clean for next time. The top headstrap comes down to personal choice, nice to have if you feel the PSVR 2 is a bit weighty on your face.

Keeping your PSVR 2 safe

More than any other VR headsets the PSVR/PSVR 2 has a wealth of stand options available. Why have separate charging and carrying solution when one big chunk of plastic will do. The GORIXER Vertical Charging Stand Dock for $29.99 on Amazon is an eye catcher thanks to its funky RGB lighting system. Certainly more colourful and cheaper than the PlayStation VR2 Sense Controller Charging Station.

With space to hold your PSVR 2, PULSE 3D Wireless Headset and Sense Controllers, it is certainly a space saver. Plug the optional magnetic USB-C connectors into the controllers and you can charge them in the station as well. Taking roughly 90 mins.

Extend the controller battery life

A few months ago we discussed how to extend PSVR 2’s controller battery life. You might want to spend hours and hours with the PSVR 2 on, getting lost in virtual worlds but the Sense controllers won’t let you. Unlike the Meta Quest 2 controllers that can last for months on a single AA battery, Sony’s controllers last, at best, four hours.

As they’re sealed units the only way to extend this life is with an external battery pack. Product like the Cooopoo Rechargeable Battery Pack are great for this. It comes in a two-pack – one for each controller – with a 5000mAh capacity. That sould give you a few extra hours of time in VR.

Prescription VR Lenses

Need to wear glasses whilst using your PSVR 2? Depending on the style of eye wear you own it, not all of them will fit within the headset’s face cowel. So VR prescription lens are a good alternative.

The area number of different companies which offer VR lens inserts. VR Rock, VR Optician, HonsVR and VR Lens Lab are some of the leaders in the field. As we’ve not tried them all we can’t definitvely say which is the best.
