XRSource has always been a big fan of CM Immersive’s Into the Radius series, with the original recently appearing in our Best Open World VR Games. Why the original, you may ask and not the sequel? Because Into the Radius 2 is still in Early Access development. However, that’s about to change very soon, with Into the Radius ready for its 1.0 launch this month.
On this page:
Into the Radius 2 1.0
Into the Radius 2 originally launched as a Steam Early Access title in 2024. In the almost two years since then, the survival shooter has received numerous updates, refining the gameplay and expanding the explorable world.
The SteamVR edition for PCVR headsets is set to leave Early Access on 23rd April 2026. Naturally, this will include a brand new update, notably making the game finishable from start to finish with a new, fully fledged plotline. Furthermore, the 1.0 update will also add new weapons, updates to the locations travel and discovery system, introduce new anomalies, fresh mission types, gun paint system, night vision goggles and flare rockets; as well as bringing back grenades, melee weapons and a guitar from the first game.
And for fans eager to get their hands on it early, a preview beta will be released very soon.
Survival Gameplay
The Into the Radius games have always offered tough, challenging, immersive survival. Set in a surreal area called the Pechorsk zone, it suffered a strange event, creating dangerous terrain filled with monsters. You need to head into the zone, scavenge for resources and discover what’s going on.
While the environment and creature encounters border on the surreal, the gameplay mechanics are very much set in reality. Heading out from your central base, you’ll need to manage your weapons loadout, their maintenance and your supplies. Inventory space isn’t unlimited, but you can arrange pouches and holsters exactly where you need them.
Guns behave realistically, requiring manual reloading. Which you’ll be doing often once you start to encounter the anomalies hidden within the dilapidated environment.
And the Meta Quest?
So PCVR players have got a lot to look forward to later this month. But what about those surviving the zone on Meta Quest? The Quest version is also in Early Access, but it launched almost a year after the Steam edition.
As such, the two editions don’t feature complete content parity. It’s likely that plans for the official launch of the 1.0 version for Quest will be sometime soon. Hopefully, it won’t take an entire year.
