Having made its debut on Meta Quest in December 2025, Shop & Stuff has quickly become a popular VR title. So much so, that the game has since seen big updates redefining the onboarding system and will also soon see release on PSVR 2. But what makes running a shop in VR so appealing? We find out in 131XR’s Shop & Stuff review below.

How to Play Shop & Stuff

Shop & Stuff is a simple concept. You begin with a small roadside store and only a few products. You must satisfy the needs of your customers to earn money, and then spend that money on upgrading your store to attract more customers, and so on. Or you can just ignore all of that, and set everyone on fire.

The game is not serious in any regard. There is a pathway through the game that involves completing specific objectives to earn upgrades and the like, but it’s just as easy to forget about all of this and simply cause chaos. However, the further through the game you progress, the more opportunities for said chaos arrive. As such, there’s a nice push-and-pull through the game with very little in the way of penalties for being bad.

Shop & Stuff Review

In 131XR’s Shop & Stuff review (embedded below), we learn more about this trade-off. Do you want to pursue lofty goals of owning the biggest shop around? Or are you just looking to propel innocent bystanders into the sky by throwing them under the cars passing by? The aesthetic of the game – including all of the violence – is very cartoony. Given the nature of the action and the visual depiction thereof, it’s pretty easy to imagine the target audience for Shop & Stuff.

The game feels ideally suited to the audience that has quickly become recognised as growing rapidly on the Meta Quest platform: pre-teens. It’s not a serious enough challenge for gamers, and the violence isn’t so serious that you wouldn’t want younger players to see it. Instead, it’s very much your 9-12 year-olds that the humour, freeform gameplay and graphical depiction will resonate with.

Stuff & Stuff

Shop & Stuff isn’t the first game of its ilk in VR. In fact, it’s not even the first from developer HyperVR. The game joins a growing series including Pets & Stuff and Shave & Stuff. Undoubtedly, the developer has found a sweet spot of appealing to one of the largest demographics on Meta Quest without resorting to free-to-play. Shop & Stuff may not appeal to you directly, but there’s no denying it remains a premium quality product.

Future Shop & Stuff Content

Given that Shop & Stuff has launched as an Early Access title, you can expect many future updates yet to come. Developer HyperVR now has quite the catalogue of VR titles, and supporting them all may be challenging. However, given the studio’s success so far you be mad to be against them continually improving Shop & Stuff and growing the game’s audience.
