Indie developer Jim Gray Productions has announced its debut VR game, Escape From Hadrian’s Wall. Coming to Meta Quest and PC VR headsets soon, this puzzle adventure challenges players with strategic golem card battles and intricate escape room puzzles, all within an immersive VR world.
What is Escape From Hadrian’s Wall?
In Escape From Hadrian’s Wall. the year is 402 AD. It is a time of Roman occupation and Celtic legend, rife with ancient magic and mystery. You are a prisoner in Hadrian’s Wall, a massive fortification built to defend Britannia. You must exercise your intellect while using magical tools to decipher clues, solve intricate puzzles, and battle Elemental Golems. Decode, discover, and delve into the labyrinthine passages beneath Hadrian’s Wall.
Escape From Hadrian’s Wall is being developed by a former ILMxLAB developer. Jim Gray worked on Vader Immortal, Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire, as well as other VR games. As such, he’s certainly cut his VR chops. This debut solo effort will hopefully show what this experience can do with VR without the constraints of a massive franchise such as Star Wars.
Gameplay Features
The gameplay in Escape From Hadrian’s Wall appears to be somewhere between Vestiges: Fallen Tribes and a traditional Final Fantasy turn-based combat system. You’ll have a series of cards which dictate which creatures will be launched into battle on a grid based system. The game will also feature puzzles, though we’ve not yet seen how these will play out.
Furthermore, you’ll be able to “mix potions, play music on a magical psaltery, and manipulate Earth, Air, Fire, and Water with your magic wand”. Though, to what end we’re not entirely sure.
The game promises commendable production values, with five fully voice-acted NPCs, accessibility features and an “entrancing and magical soundtrack”. At launch it will be localised in English and French, though more languages will follow at a later date.
Escape From Hadrian’s Wall Launch Details
Escape From Hadrian’s Wall will launch for both Meta Quest and PC VR on 10th November, 2025. The game will be priced at be available for $24.99 USD. However, a pre-order discount is available now, bringing the price down to $19.99.
