Posted on: 26 Sep 2025

Earlier this year, Vertigo Games and Maze Theory announced Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow for Meta Quest, PSVR 2 and PC VR. The first time the Thief franchise has come to VR, we’ve been treated to a few details as well as a short trailer. Now the teams are planning a far more comprehensive gameplay showcase, premiering in a few days.

Thief VR Gameplay Premiere

The upcoming Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow gameplay premiere will take place on 30th September 2025, at 10 am PT/6 pm BST. If you’re interested, simply tune in via Vertigo Games’ YouTube channel.

Apart from saying that viewers will get an “in-depth look” at the game, no other details have been released. So it’s unclear if it’ll be one long gameplay trailer, or whether we might get a bit more of a deep dive with the devs themselves. We’ll have to wait and see.

Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow – What to Expect

Originally released in 1998, the Thief franchise is a pioneer in the world of stealth gameplay, and looks set to continue that trend in VR. Stephen Russell, who voiced Garrett in the original games, makes a return, although this time around players will be taking on the role of Magpie. Magpie is a young thief who was orphaned by the tyrannical Baron Ulysses Northcrest.

Survival on the City streets means stealing, learning how to use the shadows to sneak past guards. But then one day, Magpie discovers “a legendary artifact holding a legacy from the past”, which changes everything.

As a skilled thief, Magpie will be able to pickpocket guards, pry open hidden compartments, and bypass locks with tactile VR interactions. She’ll have an array of arrows and tools to distract, disable, or eliminate threats as she sneaks through back alleys and climbs rooftops.

Currently, Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow doesn’t have a launch date, but it’s slated to arrive before the end of 2025.

Thief VR is in Good Hands

Thankfully, if you’re a fan of the series, Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow is in good hands. Aided by Eidos-Montréal (Thief (2014), both Verigo Games and Maze Theory have a long, successful history in VR. Vertigo Games made a name for itself with the Arizona Sunshine franchise, and more recently, Metro Awakening.

Maze Theory is known for bringing major TV IPs to VR. From the likes of Doctor Who: The Edge of Time through to Peaky Blinders.
