It’s no secret that while PSVR 2 is a great VR headset, Sony hasn’t exactly been the best parent. It’s been two and a half years since launch, and while games are still being released, the frequency isn’t very high. PlayStation recently held one of its regular State of Play events – which tend to feature PSVR 2 less and less – and the headset got one mention, and it was a big one. Microsoft Flight Simulator is on its way, which, alongside the likes of Gran Turismo 7, makes PSVR 2 a rather nice simulator headset.
Microsoft Flight Simulator lands on PlayStation
During the State of Play showcase, Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) announced that Microsoft Flight Simulator would be coming to PlayStation 5 on 8th December 2025. Quite a feat considering this is a game created by Xbox Game Studios and Asobo Studio.
Originally released for Xbox and PC last year (with optional VR support), Microsoft Flight Simulator comes packed with a fleet of aircraft to fly around the globe, enjoying dynamic weather before you land at one of the thousands of airports. Just like its brethren, the PS5 edition will come in various editions, each offering access to more aircraft.
As for the PSVR 2 version, this will be a free add-on, set to arrive at some point in 2026.
PlayStation Sim Goodness
Another simulator game mentioned during State of Play was Gran Turismo 7. This has offered PSVR 2 compatibility since the headset’s launch, and will soon enjoy a new update called ‘Spec III’. Billed as the racing games’ biggest to date, it’ll add two brand-new F1 race circuits, 8 new vehicles and more.
All of this is starting to make PSVR 2 a rather attractive device for those gamers who love realistic simulators. Not just because of these two games, but also PSVR 2’s suite of high-end tech. OLED panels, HDR, eye-tracking, and headset haptics can all serve to deliver an even more immersive experience. It’s why most owners say you need to buy GT7 if you own the headset.
Could PSVR 2 Surplant PCVR in Sim Games?
That then begs the question, could PSVR 2 beat out its PCVR rivals, now or in the near future? Gran Turismo may have a long, illustrious history on PlayStation, but true sim fans always stick to PC. From the multi-monitor setups and peripherals to the wide array of games, PC gaming has been hard to beat.
But you don’t need all those monitors and space with a VR headset. It compacts the setup whilst putting the player directly in the racing seat/cockpit. Headsets like Meta Quest 3, Bigscreen Beyond, or Pimax Crystal can offer a great experience, but so can PSVR 2 through its new PC adaptor. Okay, so features like HDR don’t currently work, but those gorgeous displays do.
And it might be in these niche markets that PSVR 2 can live a long a fruitful life.
